Nanny Diaries + It's November!

Is it just me or did this year just 'fly' so quickly?, it's scary man, all the things I wanted to have done by the end of the year, let's just say I'm still working on...lol. School run is sooooo not fun, my God I have a new found appreciation for my parents, and for all of you that were screaming "St. Saviours, St. Saviours!" how far with all the homework? I feel like I'm a student there as well. Oh well oh well.

So I never told you about all my nanny drama. Miss B is gone, I'm not even sure what happened, all I know is she came back late from her weekend off I scolded her and she stormed into my home office with her resignation letter, whaat? I didn't even bother asking her why she was leaving...

Two (very long) months later I hired Miss M, Miss M, was introduced to me by the lady who does our pedicures, who of course vouched a 100% for Miss M's personality. First thing I noticed when she started work was that she was 'booming' when I say 'booming' you don't even understand, if she was in the living room, three hours later, you'll know she entered the room because she left her 'signature' scent behind. I bought her deodorant and told her to wash her underarms with lime, no dice. My mum was going crazy with the smell and asked her to go bring all her lotions, it turned out she was using a bleaching cream that smelled really bad, go figure. The sad thing is, she wasn't willing to let it go, every time you smell it on her again, she'll tell you she was cleaning fish or something (yes it smelled that bad)

To top it off, her problems didn't end with the stench, she also had quick fingers. I can tolerate a lot, but I can't do thieves. Anyway long story short Miss M's short tenure ended up at the police station cause she 'fapped' my jewellery (another long story, think I overdid it with the police, lesson learned). My pedicure lady promptly 'disclaimed' her at this point.

Then came along Miss Togo B, this is her second month, and so far so good. My main issue is that she doesn't speak well which Kpuff could potentially pick up (Kpuff picked up 'H-animal' from Miss M...ye!). Anyway let's keep our fingers crossed, I'm soo not ready to switch nannies again.

Meanwhile my mum was saying some jazz like I shouldn't get another nanny (before Miss Togo B resumed) cause kpuff is so much better off when I'm involved in everything she does (like duh!). Abeg, I can't do it, call me anything, I like my work, I like the break from a crying child, and I'm very happy to have a life outside of my role as a mother, more power to all the stay at home mums and dads!

Kpuff classic

Ever so often kpuff cracks me up, I always mean to share with you all but by the time I get around to it I've forgotten or don't find it as funny anymore...lol

So on our way home from school today (finally decided on St. Saviours....more on that later) kpuff decides she wants to play with my phone and it went something like this

Me: no you can't play with my phone, its not working cause you've dropped it too many times

Kpuff: it's working!!

Me: no its not are you going to give me money to fix my phone?

Kpuff: yes (with a mischevious smile)

Me: where are you going to get money from?

Kpuff: from my 'molopoly'

If only it were that easy.

Julie

Meet Julie, she is 6 months old and suffering from a severe case of traction alopecia. Julie is Kpuff's best friend, baby, my sister (the days kpuff feels like playing mummy to me), and the one who gets blamed for everything..."kpuff* why did you pour the water on the floor?"....."It's not me, it's Julie that did it!"......"kpuff, you 'wee weed' on my bed" ....."it's not me, it's Julie that 'wee weed'" (or a more creative "I didn't we wee, water came out of my bum bum..."), you get the general gist. Once upon a time Julie had a full head of nice curly hair, but for some reason, Kpuff had absolutely no interest in her (I tell you kids can be strange). For the life of me I can't even think of how all her hair came out in such a short time, maybe 'Julie' pulled it out herself...

Deal or No Deal

I have a very good friend, who has a boyfriend she's been dating for a 'minute'. When they started dating....he was all over her like white on rice (like always...lol) and now barely a year later he's cooled off considerably (the usual, work, other commitments...etc). No problem. A hot topic of debate for them has been marriage, they both want to get married to each other but he's not ready just yet. He wants to put a few things in place (finances....hmmm not sure what else...lol). She on the other hand doesn't see why they can't put those 'things' in place together. He feels pressured. He feels they can start to take the steps towards putting those 'things' together by saving towards common goals, possibly living together...etc before they get married. She feels, if he can do all that then what's the difference they might as well be married. She's starting to feel like he wants all the benefits of the 'cow' without buying it (I've always hated that saying)

So.....thoughts? What am I to tell her?

I came home today to find kpuff her grand-dad (my dad) playing golf (nintendo wii), kpuff came 2nd (I prefer second to last...:)) with a record of +63!! I didn't even know scores came that high...hey as long as she's happy. Wii boxing on the other hand she excels at, home girl had like 7 knock outs in a row..lol.

So in other news, I've had an office now for about two months, the first week I started out great, got there everyday at 8:00am, more recently I'm barely making it there by 10:00am!!! I don't know what's going on, it's like I'm stuck in a rut, I've been working on the same projects for months now and it's sooooo boring....someone please help, I need to get motivated again, quickly too. I guess it doesn't help that I'm up blogging at 1 a.m...lol. Ok ok goodnight...

I'm in search of a new school for Kpuff, she's not due to start primary school for another 2 years or so, but most of the good schools are quite competitive (I mean they interview the kids and all...lol). On the shortlist are Grange and St. Saviours Ebute Metta. I prefer St. Saviours but meeeen that commute won't be easy since we live in Ikeja. I spent the last two days collecting one admission form or the other from them it wasn't fun. She may have her interview with them on Thursday, I can't even imagine how that will go, let's hope it's a 'good' kpuff day, cause if they catch her on a bad day...we certainly will have no choice but to scratch them off our list...lol. Does anyone have any other mainland school recommendations? Thoughts on Corona Gbagada? Chrisland? (I haven't heard any rave reviews about either in the last few years).

Part of the reason I stayed away from blogging for so long was that a lot was (and still is) going on in my life that I didn't want to share just yet. For one, Mr. is completely out of the picture except where it concerns Kpuff and I'm quite fine with that. It's sad though I hear about so many separated and/or distressed couples these days. What are we all doing wrong?

It's been over a year since I updated....:(. Frankly I didn't think I'll update again, but for some reason I've been thinking about blogging lately...I've really missed everyone. What's new? Does anyone still come here?...I'll do my best not to stay away for so long next time but I can't make any promises.

So, on to my favourite topic :). Kpuff is three...., can you believe it?! she's 3 years old! she's talking a lot now, as in non-stop, my mum says she's either talking, crying, singing or sleeping..lol....

Well as you can imagine, a lot has happened in the last year so I guess we have lots to discuss...:)

Updates

Thanks for the all the comments and emails, it's amazing how time flies, almost 2 months since I updated :( - sorry. So much has happened over the last 2 months, Kpuff's birthday was a hit, a few of us (about 10 folks) went to fun place, Kpuff was really really clingy (which isn't abnormal - but damn), but I hear she had fun when I left to drop off her cake at home, I'm starting to think Kpuff pulls all these stunts only when I'm present..hmm. My birthday was just alright, ended up not doing anything :), I did get nice gifts though ;).

My ISP's (Direct on PC) put me through hell over the last month or so, Bungalow practically became my office, what's a girl to do now. Please send all VSAT recommendations for the mainland my way, I need a decent backup ASAP.

Birthday & Birthday

Kpuff's birthday is this weekend! how time flies, I don't believe she's going to be 2, I still clearly remember being pregnant and labour (shudder). Once your child starts hitting 1 or 2 everyone is like "...so when is the next one coming?"....hmmm yeah sure.

So I'm not sure what the agenda for her birthday this year is, definitely no party, I think I'm going to take a couple, sorry a few (more like 2 other kids..lol) to fun place and buy her a cake or something and of course take lots and lots and lots of pics. As far as her vocabulary is concerned, it's definitely expanding everyday, like everyone else in Lagos she's moved on from Yahooze to Gongo Aso and actually says "Mummy pay gog-aso"..lol.

In other news...well there's no other news...lol. Oh yeah, my birthday is next month, and I'm not sure if I want to do something or not, a dinner party?, a 'parry parry'? both? a trip? a nice luxury gift to me? what do you think?

Swim Update

I did it!!! we went swimming yesterday!!!!. Yeah that whole high pony tail ting didn't work....lol. Kpuff was petrified, she was screaming at the top of her lungs...bush girl..lol. I tried the kiddie pool, no luck with that either, so I decided to go back to the regular pool and let her cry it out. When she finally did, she fell asleep on her floater holding on to me for dear life...lol. I'm going to try to make it a weekly thing, so we're off to Ikoyi Club next Sunday....:).

Other than that my weekend was alright, had lunch at Cactus on Saturday and drinks at 007, I am making a keen effort to be more social this year..lol. Let's see how long this lasts.

The Fun Place

It's so nice to read all the nice welcome back comments from everyone, I feel like a superstar..lol. I have to confess I don't have much to blog about today, but I don't want to abandon the blog for another (cough) 3 months..lol.

Didn't get up to much this weekend, Aunty B is off, so it's just kpuff and I :). the last few weekends have been weddings, bridal showers, etc.

For those of us who live on the mainland there's a semi-new place at opebi called "The Fun Place" (I think, I have to double check), it's actually quite nice. I'll say it's geared towards children from about 2 to like 10, there's not much for the 2 year olds except a large play pen which kpuff was perfectly fine with. Also, most of the rides are geared towards kids aged 3 years and above, one of their staff said it was ok if your child is younger though(me I no do that one sha..lol). Definitely check it out if you live in the neighborhood, at least it's something different to do. Also pls someone convince me to take kpuff swimming, I'm soo embarassed I've never taken her swimming (we went to the beach over the break though), I don't want to wet my hair and I soooo don't feel like swimming...lol

Knock knock, anyone still here? I'm sooooooo sorry. Much much much has happened and is going on. For one we need to come up with a new name for kpuff she's slimmed down considerably (she's not ill or anything I think it's just cause she's more active). She's still not in school :(, I promise that will happen by her 2nd birthday which is next month!!

Mr. and I are no more, long long story don't want to discuss it on here so that's that.

Business has been quite good so thank God for that, I'm also working on pet project which I will share with you all soon, looking forward to that. My christmas and new year were fantastic both my sisters were around with their husbands/significant others.

For those of you who warned me, Kpuff has finally learnt to say "NO" as a result her favorite answer to everything is a loud "NO!!!!"....lol, we need to fix that.

Hiatus

Sorry I have been AWOL, I've just been busy. So much has happened over the last few weeks not sure where to start. Well for all of you that said to give kpuff kpuff sweets that's not even an issue now cause she's stopped going to daycare, she was quite ill (she's better now) so I stopped for awhile. Going back didn't quite happen as I imagined, as soon as I turned into the street she started crying...lol...She screamed and screamed and screamed, so we drove right back home, there's no need. Thanks for all the suggestions though.

I've also been in London quite a bit over the last few weeks, I actually bumped into a blogger at my friends place, she was trying to be slick saying oh she doesn't have a blog, her cousin is cheetarah...lol..Anyway finally she confessed that she is cheetarah, very very funny chick.

Now the reason I've been going to London like it's going out of fashion is I had some training to do with my client or oga depending on how you want to look at it. So I had to go into the office everyday from about 9:30 to 5:30 - 6:00, let's just say I don't miss those days. It was nice to be working with people again, but I had forgotten rush hour sardine trains...eww. Nigeria spoils you though..lol. Anyway, on one of the days I was in the office last week thursday to be exact, I was chatting with Mr. on msn, and trying to see kpuff kpuff on msn video, but he has an older version of msn so we couldn't do the video thing, so I told him, we'll use skype but I can't talk cause I'm in the office. That's how me I was trying to look serious like I was doing work oh, I was even telling him, sorry I can't smile cause I don't want them to catch me, I kept sending messages and he wasn't responding, but Mr. types quite slow, so I thought he was just doing his normal 2 finger typing and taking forever. Next thing my boss/lead developer is like "umm....I don't think these messages are meant for me....".... Ye! do you know my dumb ass had been sending all the messages intended for Mr. to him???!!! But men, naija style, I just "boned" and said sorry they weren't meant for him...lol. How unprofessional...

It looks like everyone has abandoned blogsville....tsk tsk..shame.

So I found out that, kpuff kpuff has been hustling the other little kids in school for their biscuit, chai. Apparently when the other kids are eating their biscuits during lunch Kpuff kpuff is supposed to be eating her yoghurt cause I don't want to get her started on sweets, but the allure of the other kids biscuits is too much for her to bear, so she goes to hit them and take their biscuits....lol..terrible I know but funny all the same.

In other news, Aunty B or Miss B (I don't remember what I named her) is doing great so far, I am so so happy :). Kpuff is actually quite attached to her already, she actually goes to her willingly from my arms and trust me that's pretty impressive. So due to my new found freedom :) I've gone out quite a bit in the last 2 weeks. Iwent to Pattaya (near Mega Plaza) 2 weekends ago, their food is really really good so if you're up for thai food and you're in that area definitely check it out. I also finally went to Saipan this last weekend the decor's really nice but it was a bit noisy I think there was a dinner party or something going on. And then ended my evening at 6 degrees which was packed as usual, I couldn't help but think about 36s' sisters' ordeal, funny enough when I was leaving there were so many police men outside. Thankfully I had no drama.

So the following words have been added to kpuff's ever expanding vocabulary:

Wa wa = dog (correction from a few weeks back, I thought it was rah rah)
Wa wa = lizard, roach, anything else that moves that isn't human...lol
waaaa wa = grand pa
maaaa ma = grand ma
ma ma = me
daddy = mr.
oh oh (and a little jiggy) = play me yahooze so I can dance.. (lol...I'm serious)

I spoke to an old friend today, before today I hadn’t spoken to her in about 16 years, we lived on the same street for about 3 years till I turned 10 or 11 then my family moved. Talking to her brought back a flood of memories both good and bad. There were 3 of us who were about the same age on the street, we went to birthday parties together, went to ‘lesson’ together, went to the club together, everything but go to the same primary school. It was at one of their houses I watched the first Nightmare on elm street, the cosby show (though I didn’t get the humour at the time…lol) and countless other ‘cool’ shows. It was also from them I found out what various dirty words meant…lol. Funny thing is I could have contacted them at any point over the last 16 years, at least we were in the same country before I traveled in 1998 and I made absolutely no effort for reasons I honestly can’t remember. It was also in that period I discovered the bitchy back biting tendencies of girls and I must admit I fully participated in these activities as well……..(that was before I became ‘deep’ and took my women studies feminism class...lol). Whatever the case I’m glad I spoke to her and actually looking forward to meeting up with her hopefully soon.

In other news, I have a new nanny, Miss B. I met her through the girl that does our feet. She started on Monday and since kpuff is in her normal diva state she’s definitely not letting Miss B. just carry her without a fight…lol, but at least she’s blowing her kisses and waving bye when she leaves, trust me that’s a lot for kpuff to do for someone she’s known for just a week.

Lol...thanks for all your suggestions for my friend. You guys really are a crazy bunch. Unfortunately/Fortunately, my friend is getting cold feet, so the search is off (that's what I get for trying to hook a brother up...lol).

Anyway, what's new with you folks?

Totally off topic, one of my homeboys is on a quest to find a girlfriend in 30 days (no idea why). He's a fine boy (naija fine boy I hope that isn't copyrighted..lol), 6ft 3 inches (or something in that vicinity), and lives in NY. All suggestions welcome.
