Have any of you guys got tickets to the ThisDay music festival yet? I just called someone who works at a GTB on allen and he said they haven't the tickets yet, huh? isn't this event supposed to be this weekend?. Anyway naija for you.

I have been down with a terrible cold so I didn't do much this weekend, went to News Cafe on Sunday for drinks though with Mr. it was ok, but the smoke in there was killing me. I swear they need to ban smoking indoors like they do in NY, it's just crazy.

Kpuff kpuff is finally saying mama in reference to me (siiiiigh), and she says it in this really tush oyinboyish way too...lol.

...

So recently I've been thinking of moving out of Nigeria again...(gasp!!!), just thinking ok? I know I was so excited to move here, and I'm still excited to be here, but the security issues just kill me, I mean nothing has happened to me and my family, but it's just scary, I swear I am so nervous every time I have to drive out by myself, I've gotten used to the aggressive driving, but every time I see brake lights ahead, or I see someone reversing I freeze and wonder if I should be reversing too. What kind of sufferhead is this?

ow, ok, so kpuff kpuff is a girl....'kk' will be a nice short...then imagine they ask her "what does kk stand for ", and she says 'kpuff kpuff'.

Do her cheeks really look like kpuff kpuff?. No tickets yet for This-day...10K bucks...I hope the show will be worth the bucks.

Driving in Lagos na helele o.....Truly things are getting more dangerous by the hour. Robbery is now done in the daylight coz the robbers need to see what they are stealing real-time. Worse is that after robbing a house, they proceed to the kitchen to eat and drink, settle down, before jumping the fence to the neighboring compound. Talk about total impunity in wrong doing.

And yes, we say we have police in uniform.

You are in the exact same boat with me, Myself and hubby were talking about whether we should get out of Naija o. All this security wahala is too worrying. You find yourself jumping at any sign of activity on the roads.

Even houses in areas where one felt secure are no longer secure as they are robbing them there now too. Even going to the extent of storming house parties!

Sorry to hear about ur cold. I hope u r feeling a lot better now.

I dunno about banning smoking in Nigeria oooh...i just dont see it happening but it is a good idea. Smoking in public places has been banned here in the UK(since the 1st of July 07) and trust me it makes a big difference.

Why are robberys becomming so frequent in Naija. I know quiet a few people who have been robbed recently and some have even lost thier lives.
i remember what it was like when my man and i visited lagos in December for his sisters wedding. The wedding after party even finished extra early for fear that Armed Robbers might be attracted because of all the flashy cars and loud music.

No disrecpect oh but i dont see myslef raising a family in Lagos at all. So i dont blame u for wanting to leave Naija.

...yes the security situation is scary, but its naija.
..don't let that discourage you, but instead use it as a steppin stone to challenge yourself to see how far you can push yourself despite the odds.
..as my mum says, we dont get to choose our family and where we call home, its God, the ultimate architect that plans it all.
...so like our crazy ass, totally embarrassin family which we have to deal with everytime, why cant we use the same approach to our country.
**but again am not in your shoes, just do what feels right to you thats all.

Good luck, i can say so many people think same. I think like u alot i wish and dtill hope i will just get out cos i like the easy and predictable life and security. But my hubby feels theres so much in Nigeria, and theres no place like home. I cabbash (pray) whenever i notice any small thing. But all in all God is able and am sure u guys are here for a reason.

I know some people who have got tickets for the show. Try any of the GTB's in V.I. I'll suggest Plaza - dunno wat the street is called but its the one behind elphina plaza cos am bad wit street's names.

@tokunbo....lol, we actually call a cousin of mine kk and come to think of it I have no idea what it stands for..lol.

That's just crazy that they'll rob a place then chop before they leave. I thought they weren't even bothering with house calls anymore.

@anigerianwoman..yeah I think what makes Lagos different from other major cities as far as crime is concerned is that, no neighbourhood is off limits. It's so sad.

@arewa..aww thanks :). I'm much better. Definitely wishful thinking on my part that they'll ban smoking indoors here, but I miss coming home without everything down to my underwear smelling like smoke.

I really don't know what's going on with this robbery thing, just today I heard another story, they never seem to stop. Well then again there's no one to stop them.

No disrespect taken, Nigeria has its pluses, but sometimes it can be really difficult to see them.

@calabar gal, thanks dear :)

@anonymous..it is scary, but I guess it's just one of those things and when it's your time it is regardless of where you are. 'Congrats' on the anticipated move.

@toyintomato...that's a very interesting way to look at it, I think we've all formed the habit of running away from most difficult situations. Well we'll see how it goes, whatever the case even if we move it's not going to be anytime soon, we need to sort out a lot of things.

@a kel called wonder...Thanks we all need the luck, I'm definitely torn on the issue, but I would be lying if I say moving out of Nigeria again hasn't crossed my mind. I hope for the best. Thanks for the info on the tickets, I don't think we'll be going anymore though.

I saw these two comments on Bella Naija’s comment page of “This day Concert” and I thought the whole world should know. I love Oprah and the rest of the Artists my aim is just to show Nigerians that it is time we start supporting our own people and make our own country better. Contrary to what Oprah thinks Nigerians are the smartest most intelligent people in this world.

PLEASE READ THE PIECE BELOW FROM NIGERIAN PUNCH NEWSPAPER AND PASS YOUR COMMENT:

Oprah Winfrey got it wrong

By Our Reader
Published by PUNCH NEWSPAPER: Thursday, 26 Jul 2007

Recently, America’s TV girl, Oprah Winfrey, called on America to sever diplomatic relationships with world’s topmost corrupt countries.

Worst of all the countries, Oprah surmised, is Nigeria.

According to her, “all Nigerians – regardless of their level of education – are corrupt.”

It is very pathetic that Oprah could ascribe to a larger population, the evil act of an insignificant number of persons in the world’s most populous black nation.

Oprah’s conclusion is based on the fact that a Nigerian of Igbo extraction was caught with $500,000, which was alleged to have been stolen from a foreigner through the Internet fraud popularly known as 419.

Oprah had sponsored an hour-long programme, which ran for several days on the CNN, with the sole aim of exposing the clever tricks espoused by this group of Nigerians to con their victims.

Much has been said about the greed of the victims themselves, and I need not say more about it.

However, at a time when Americans are committing heinous crimes against children and women, nobody has tagged all Americans as murderous.

So, why call all Nigerians rogues because of the sin of a few bad eggs?

Oprah regularly tells her life story: how she was sexually abused by close relations, how she ‘walked the streets’ (Americans’ euphemism for prostitution), etc., but nobody has ever deemed it fit to tag all American men as incestuous because of Oprah and others’ experiences.

She did drugs – just like the typical American teenager, but nobody has cast all American youths in the mould of drug abusers!

So, why should an individual that is supposed to know better sentence a nation to odium for the infraction of a tiny fraction of its population?

I urge Oprah and her likes to disabuse their minds about Nigerians.

Be wary of requests for money from strangers, and if you fall for a scam, blame your greed and not Nigerians.

Ps: to the owners of the blog I’m sorry for invading your blog. I just felt we Nigerians let go of that inferiority complex of American things being way better than Nigerians. We need to make our stuff better too if think it is not up to standard.

I just stumbled on your blog (via solomonsydelle's) and wanted to say how much I've enjoyed the little I've read. your daughter sounds adorable! and it's great to see pp making things work regardless of the Lagos/Naija stress. I'm one of the longing-to-return troops and definitely plan to be back in Naija within the next 4/5 years (just graduated from uni) but it's disheartening to think that once you get back and finally exhale and start living the life you always (kinda) envisioned, then security issues and such come up and you start thinking of doing a 180 right back to wherever it is will give you light, water, and most importantly peace of mind!

well just wanted to say hi!

Had 3 armed robber attacks in the space of 8 months! Sigh- I'll just stop there.

Fortunately, no-one was seriously hurt on any occassion.
