I've had a crazy week so far, of course in between I've kept up with the latest blog gist...LOL
Monday
Had to go to Ayinke House close to the Airport to see a doctor. That place is a dump, so how did I end up there you ask? I have been looking for a pediatrician for my kpuff kpuff since we got back and everyone kept recommending this same doctor, and after trying to make an appointment with her for like 1 month, she finally got in contact with me and said she works at Ayinke house on Mondays so I should stop by and see her there. So we got there, asked for her, after everyone pointed us in different directions we finally arrived at her office, meeen her office was hot there was no light (yes I said no light at a hospital) so they had a small gen on that couldnt' carry any fans. She wasn't there so we had to wait for her, thankfully, she showed after about 10 mins. She was actually a lot nicer than I expected, considering the circumstances, she examined kpuff kpuff and told us she is doing perfectly fine and is pretty big :-D for a first baby, then she recommended us to another hospital to get some shots she's due for at 9 months. Looking around while we were waiting at that hospital, I really felt for anyone who had to be admitted there, rude nurses, pungent smells, I mean the works. Yeah we have to find a private clinic with a good ped, pronto. I'm not going back there anytime soon.
Tuesday
I had an 11 appointment with a dentist on Raymond Njoku. Their office wasn't bad, trust me I've been to enough dentists to know bootleg ones when I see them. Anyway, she attended to me about 20 mins late (not bad by Nigerian standards) and told me I need to yank out my tooth cause it was badly infected to salvage :(. So after about 40 minutes of prying, drilling, suctioning, my tooth was pulled out and I was left with a large gaping hole where it once was (don't worry the tooth is in the back so I can still do sisi....lol). Anyway, they asked me if I wanted dentures or a dental implant to replace the tooth, I think I am a little too young to be putting my teeth in a glass when I'm going going to bed, so I opted for the implants, which she said in total are going to cost me about 900 pounds plus one other thing thing that will cost an additional 300 to 400 pounds. The amount of money I have spent on this mouth of mine, it better start bringing money back for me quick quick.
Wednesday
First thing this morning I had to take my baby to get her shots, so my plan was to wake up early take her as early as possible, drop her back at home then go to the bank. Well I woke up got ready and was about to just wipe her down and change her only to find out she had diarrhea...eewww, and her nanny hadn't come yet so I couldn't hand her over to anyone. So of course this delayed us another 30 mins cause I had to clean her up and give her a bath. So we got the hospital and this one was another mad house, it was like an assembly line of mothers and babies. If you see the way some children were crying, I was really tempted to run out of there, but I didn't want to seem unappreciative as our neighbor doctor had gone through a lot of trouble to introduce us to the Ayinke House doctor who recommended us here for the shots. Anyway, after they called my baby orobo a few times and begged her not to break their scale, she got her two shots (measles and tuberculosis) and we have to go back on the 28th for yellow fever. Sigh. She cried small sha, but nothing that 'pat-a-cake' couldn't fix. So I rushed back home dropped her off and headed to the bank.
I have been having some problems with my bank, my clients/employers wired me money since Jan 15th and the money is not in my account, when I checked last month and it wasn't there I thought they hadn't sent it yet since it wasn't the end of the month yet. So I asked the HR chick and she said she had sent it already and sent me the confirmation. Meanwhile Standard Chatered say they never receive any money o!, that the last money was received in December. So this morning, swollen cheek and all (from my extraction yesterday) I marched to bank and demanded to see my account officer Ayo, Ayo wasn't around so I had to see some other guy Bayo who then told me to bring one document or the other from the NY folks so they can trace it. Once they get it they will have information for me withing 48 hours. I'm not feeling this shit at all, if it ends being the fault of the bank, me I'm moving my account oh!
Oh and after working like a 'jackie' yesterday when I got home in preparation for todays deadline, I was told it had been pushed to Monday. And Mr. got by caught by LASMA yesterday too for driving in the opposite direction on a one way, (this is the second time this has happened and we've been in lagos 3 and a half months).
I have also decided to let my nanny go, I will give details in another post, I have to get back to work.
Let's hope Thursday and Friday are a lot better.
Congrats to TMinx and Baba on their Blog wedding!!

1st! yay! lol
Wow...u've had a crazy week!
Typical naija craziness really.
I am so sad about Arinke House, the guy who bbuilt it really donated and invested a lot only for the place to fall apart as soon as he died. Typical nigerian lack of maintenance...
About ur teeth, people what dentist do u use? When in Lagos, I use Chubb, they are really good but I want to know my options.
Have a great week.
Ciao
Lol..I know, I swear I get surprised everyday I'm here. I didn't know that about Ayinke house, it's really sad if that's the case cause it looks like crap now.
I went to a place called AndChristies on Raymond Njoku in Ikoyi, my mom goes to Chubbs and really likes them so from what I hear they aren't bad either.
what a week!
Seems like this is a funky week for everyone. My car is acting up, of all times to act up in 7 inches of snow!
lol @ orobo baby, that's good to hear :) I hope your nanny wasn't stealing from you?
You're lucky sha, you know how it is in the U.S nanny ke? How close do you live to your parents or trustworthy relatives, they could help you babysit when needed.
BTW i was in 2000 set. what about you?
Hopefully the week will end well for both of us.
Wow...looks like you've had quite a rough week...sorry o!
LOL...@ everytime i read "kpuff-kpuff"
Don't worry...better weeks are ahead of you!
All the best
Hmm. What a hectic week. Have you tried Reddington in VI for your little angel? A friend of mine who had her baby abroad takes her there for her shots and checkups. Its on Idowu Taylor Street. My friend says they are good and her baby will be a year old next month.
Premier Specialist is a fantastic hospital. They cater primarily to women and children. All my older siblings take their kids there and my gynie is there as well. You'll pay thru your nose though.
I was able to suggest Premier Hospital meself for your daughter. That's been my son's clinic since he was 2 months (he's now 3) and they are very good. Unfortunately, I don't have the address here but it's off Bishop Oluwole Street. Dr. Ogunnaike is good at the clinic.
For dentists - for other options, Osaige Dental Clinic, 16 Boyle Street, Onikan, 01 2637970 or the Maryland office - Olatunji House, 2nd floor, 299 Ikorodu Road - 0803 308 7126. It's owned by a West- Indian lady amrried to a Nigeria. She is very good, as well as the other dentist in the Onikan area. Been there to have a tooth recapped etc.
As for banks, the trick is to let them know you will not tolerate incompetence and ALWAYS threaten to switch banks. Insist on speaking to the branch head (not your account officer who might not be able to take initiatives) and state your case. I have had a couple of brushes with my banks and they eventually toed the line. There are so many out there so you can afford to be picky and teh banks know it so they will speedily rectify the problem. The situation you decribed would have made my blood boil!
@chichi...aah! my school daughter...lol..don't mind me, I finished in 97. That sucks with your car, I have like the worse car luck too, but thank God I don't have to deal with snow, kpele o! I hope it was nothing crazy. I have a lot of help around me so it isn't a major deal. She didn't steal from me, she just generally has a shitty attitude, I'll blog about it in the next post or so. Well hope the rest of your week is great.
@uknaija...thanks, my cheek is still swollen, let's hope it's down by saturday so I can at least go have fun.
@angela..lol...my exact sentiment at those words. Her Aunty (my sister) calls her that and I find it so funny and cute, so what's an uncreative mother to do? steal pet names....lol. Thanks :), hope the week ends on a better note.
@uzo..Thanks for the recommendation, I actually never heard of them, I'll check it and anonymous's recommendation below out to see what works best for us.
@anonymous..thanks, never heard of Premier either but will check it out and be sure to blog about it if it's sketchy, or if it's very good...lol
@lm..thanks, premier moust be really good if 2 out of 3 are recommending it on here, I'll be sure to check it out. I really need to learn how to start charging for these banks, it's just crazy the way they behave. My husband said the same thing that I should have asked for the manager, I'm going back on Monday with my boxing gloves..LOL
A typical naija mommy's week. Tahnk God u survived. Ur bank had better not try u oh!! I'm pretty sure they've transfered ur money into some account on the side for the man time to run up some interest for them. Harrass them a little and next month when ur salary is wired to u, they'll pay it into ur acoount pronto without any hanky panky.
Have never lived in lagos so unfortunately cant recommend any dentist or good hospital for ur puff puff. (smile) Good to know she is keeping well and eatinga all mommy and daddy's food obediently.
aaah u didnt tell me all this one when we spoke. The bank thing is a little scary, abeg keep me posted on that one.
Orobo!!! LOL! My son was extremely chubby and we called him 'Obroks'. He has slimmed out a little bit but at 15 months he is almost as tall as his 35 months old sister and is only 10 pounds less than her in weight. (I actually have to weigh them again soon). The boy will eat the house down.
Hope your weekend is going well. Feel free to stop by either of my blogs SOLOMONSYDELLE.BLOGSPOT.COM or NIGERIANCURIOSITY.BLOGSPOT.COM.
The former one is all about the madness of my life with 2 kids and one on the way.
wiring money to Nigeria has always been a pain in the ass for me I bank with Oceanic - the money has to go via a New York intermediary. The first time, it took three weeks, the last two times I tried to wire nothing happened. I've given up. Why should these things be so difficult in this day and age?
@solomonsydelle Lol...call me mean but I put kpuff kpuff on a small diet (at 6 months she weighed about 25lbs which is what a chubby 1 year old should weigh). Your son sounds adorable. I'll check out the blogs :)
@jeremy..well isn't this an honour..lol, Mr. Weate himself dropped by (don't mind me....). Yeah wiring money is a pain, I heard Oceanic sucks though and Standard Chartered is the best since they are an 'international' bank, but they seem to be in a hurry to everyone who told me wrong.
I know that dentist on Raymond Njoku... one of my dad's best friend's owns it. Went there all my life until last year when one of their quacks used carpenter-like PLIERS to remove my wisdom teeth. I looked like Arnold (the football-head cartoon character) for an entire week.
Schubbs all the way! xxx
P.S. Lol at them calling your Kpuf Kpuf 'Orobo'.. Nurses in Lagos can be so annoying and yet so funny
I just had my teeth (3 of them ) filled at AndChristie and I had no problems with them.
All the same, it's good to know that I have to watch them closely if I need to have anything done in future.
Hope your week turned better.
nice blog. take it easy with the nanny o. she sounds a bit fresh sha. probably one of those older naija women that forget that you are actually paying her to provide a service.
i am always scared for babies under one in naija sha.
I have been to Andchristie on Raymond Njoku a number of times and i like the look of the clinic and was impressed with the services rendered. I also know that if you surgically take out your tooth, there's going to be pain and swelling after. This doesnt depend on where you did it, cos my brother did hers in another clinic in Ibadan and had the same effect.
