Partaaaay!!!

Kpuff Kpuff is turning one next month...yey!!! Please help I don't know what to do for her birthday, my head is swirling with ideas and I can't organize my thoughts, pinatas, life-sized cartoon characters, shiny squeaky things, balloons, party packs, movie poster invitations, themed baby pictures of each young guest ......someone, anyone, please help!!!

Or should I just go somewhere where they plan everything for you with bouncy castles and all that crap...but kpuff kpuff wouldn't play in bouncy castles!! I mean my kpuff kpuff is very mature she likes the finer things in life...I just don't see those things appealing to her.....lol

What if I go through all this and she cries all day and clings to me...oh boy....or should I just do something small, just immediate family with a cake and candles? and plan the big shin dig for her 4th, 5th or whatever age they start to appreciate these things...

Congrats in advance! I can understand your panic, but there's no need to worry. I am sure you will get loads of ideas. I planned a get-together for my son's dedication, and first birthday, then a "big" party for his 2nd birthday (complete with a bouncy castle, popcorn, ice cream servings etc) but for all 3 celebrations, he cried and clung to me. He was totally in a bad mood. For his third brithday last month, took cake, drinks, pizzas and party packs to his class and he had a "quiet" celebration.

I guess you should budget how much you would like to spend, based on the number on children you wish to invite (with their parents!) However, if you decide on a party, the venue might be expensive unless you have space in you home and can set up caopies.... I will suggest the following:

1) Order cake from Candy's on that Goodies road in VI (can't remember the name). You can have a picture cake or any in the cartoon character she likes. They do excellenct sponge cakes and your cake can be half vanilla, half-chocolate.....

2) I have used this guy. He does excellent children's games and keeps the children entertained. His name is Godwin - 0802 390 8208, 0806 078 6023. He can also arrange for the bouncy castle, ice cream and popcorn machines for you.

3)As for party packs, depending on the amount you want to spend, you may want to buy the bags and buy different items in bulk to fill them in. Alternatively, you could visit - Haansbro, 11b Adeola Odeku, VI, 01 2626906-7 and pick and choose what you want in the boys' and girls' party packs. They have nice things but are a bit expensive. However, what you could do is to get the bags and 2 items each, then you could buy drinks, sweets etc. from supermarkets to augment the packs.

I hope all goes well and I hope you will blog about it soon!

@dimples..lol, you're so right. IM, I think we need to have a weekly mommy column written by you...:)

@mama bomboy, thanks o! it's hard to believe it's a year already but men, I have to confess I'm not the 'childrens activity' type of mommy, I guess I still have a lot to learn :)

lol @ Dimples's comment about lm! Please dont discontinue your blog, you actually need to post more often!
Saying that, little Kpuff Kpuff is going to be one? Wow! congratulations oh! next thing you know you'll have a teenager on your hands! Lol @ her being mature and liking the finer things in life!
Seriously, why do Nigerians fuss over 1st birthday parties? The poor Baby will probably be confused and uncomfortable with the crowd. Why not have a little thing with close friends family, in a setting where she wont be too overwhelmed? Cake and ice cream and lots of pictures? She will enjoy so many more "birthdays" naija style in her future! Plus you dont seem like the big party type, or am I wrong??
Keep us posted sha.

Thanks all! I don't actually know all that much, since I only have a 3-year old son but I have an older sister with 3 boys, and a female cousin with another 3, so I guess I learn from other peoples' experiences as well as my own. I am definitely not a "childrens' activity mom" but I guess when it comes to your own, you do your best.

Please continue with your blog, it's very interesting.

Congrats oh! Birthday #1 is a big deal! I have planned bday parties at 2 months, 6 months, and 12 months (1 year) for my 2 little one. As you can tell, I am a little obsessive about celebrating my kids bdays =)

Anyway, e be like say LM don solve the problem, oh. I personally believe smaller is better until they turn 4 or 5. We have always just invited friends and their kids, although we try to limit how many kids come if we can. That way, there is less commotion, my children can have a good time and I am not stressed out at the end of the day!

Let us know what you do. My daughter turns 3 on 3/29 and I am also trying to plan her fete. Would be good to get soem ideas from you, and Im of course =)

BTW, thanks by stopping by the blog.

@ladybug....lol, I try, I really try, there's just too much to do in a day, I'll try to start posting more. You're right I'm definitely not a big party type but the thing is I think I might feel guilty if I don't do anything, I don't want to look back years later and think that I should have done something, or something better. Well I'll let you know how it goes.

@anonymous...yeah I know what you mean, we'll see how it goes...

@IM....please tell us if your name is LM or IM, I think I have written both when replying to your comments...lol...Well whatever the case you have the right experience so keep the advice coming...

@mrs somebody....lol...abi o

@solomonsydelle....thanks :)..Your daughter has the same birthday as one of my very good friends. Well definitely let me know how yours goes, or what you're planning.

@all ....I haven't made up my mind yet but I think I'm just going to go with something small, thanks for all the great advice

I always try writing LM but it comes up in small letters. Good luck! I will be watching this space!

ahhhh! turning one is really big and you should do something very nice for her first birthday. It's not so much for her appreciating it but for you and your hubby bcos of the bundle of joy God has given you!! You made it through the first year and she's healthy as a kpuff kpuff! *lol*

I don't have any theme ideas, just do something big, she'll love those pictures when she grows older :)

Congrats 9jamommy!

Got here too late! Our dear Im has all the answers... Gosh! Youre good! Abeg drop your number make we dey call you for tips - serious..

Back to the post! Your baby will cry and cling to you almost throughout so get prepared.. It's really expected. My opinion is, the 1st birthday parties are really celebrated for the parents so it really depends on you as per the location. You may wish to do it 'big' and get a poper venue and all or medium scale and do it in your front yard if you have the space.. Best of luck whatever you decide, and please keep us posted!

Hmmmn, Kpuff Kpuff is one already - u really should get a new pet name for her. She wont be happy when she grows up and learns that her mommy used to liken her to kpuff kpuff. LOL!!

I would say put ur feet up although ur pocket would suffer but I'm sure it would be worth it. She's only 1 yr old once in her entire life. Go the whole 9 yards and give her a lovely birthday party.

First time on your blog and I truly enjoyed it :)

My son is now 4 and when he turned 1, I didnt have a party. I have never been keen on children's parties that end up being adult parties(we just invite people over and have get together's often, so we never feel the need to have parties around birthdays)... I also felt our son wouldnt remember it. I decided early on that the larger parties would only start once he was old enough to remember and enjoy them.
His first elaborate one was his 4th , every year prior to that he got a cake(either in school or at home), takes pictures and he KNOWS its his birthday. But I didnt go all out...
Its totally your choice, dont feel bad about whatever decision you make. i am sure your darling will not even notice/remember.
Take care and keep posting...I truly enjoyed your blog.

Congrats on Kpuff Kpuff's 1st b-day!
God will continue to bless her!
Lol @ her being mature and liking the finer things in life...that's right....kpuff kpuff is doing big things!
Now to the party, honestly I think she's 1 so it should be festive! but it doesnt have to be big...like have all the party packs and games if you want but dont invite too many people unless it will turn into a carnival~

lm has answered all the key questions so there is nada for to add to tht...just happy birthday in advance to Kpuff Kpuff

@LM Thanks....will keep posting the updates

@chichi...lol..I take it you had a really big first birthday, whatever the case I'll make sure I do something real cute

@nyemoni...better late than never, my responses are a tad bit late too :), will definitely keep you posted whatever the case

@calabar gal....lol...she'll be fine, trust me you don't want to know my pet names and I'd like to think I'm not scarred for life....lol

@bluntremi..thanks for the compliments on my blog..great advice. Yeah regardless of what happens, she will know it's her birthday, if it means she gets to stay up till 1 a.m. which seems to be her favorite thing to do..lol

@overwhelmed naija babe...lol...you're crazy..thanks anyway

@bella naija...yeah I know what you mean, but is it possible to do anything small in Nigeria? I mean I don't want to be the only mommy without party packs, people really look forward to those things you know, I don't want kpuff kpuff to be the only one without party packs...lol

What about the close family and friend things but still with the cool party-packs and the super fab cake? Because she WILL (as someone else already said) cling to you the entire time thinking - "What is all this noise? Just give me my Gucci and go home strangers.."

If you are going to arrange any party then I'm sure with your guests their kids will also come. And for giving some entertainment those kids you can setup jumping castles and some mechanical rides for their fun. And you'll get it from party hire gold coast when you'll hire them they will provide you all services including transport and setup. Also, they cost very few amounts of money.
