Stressed

I swear stress is just following me everywhere. Right now my pimple and hair concotions are the least of my worries. I have 2 project deadlines for the 22nd of Jan and 7th of Feb. My client/boss is being a complete ass, and they are trying to renege on my contract. I think they suddenly realized "...damn we're paying this 'african' chick a little too much..." well that one is their palava, I'm not giving them room to say anything to me about it again (I kinda slacked off about 3 weeks ago and I heard it from them).

Meanwhile, I'm looking for a full-time web developer to help me with all the work I have to, I mean I am working from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. everyday, I don't have a fucking life! I interviewed 2 candidates today that were referred to me and it was a disaster. Why can't people just answer yes/no questions with a yes or no?. I asked this guy to tell me a bit about himself, and he had no clue...I mean the question is about him? Whatever the case, I need to find someone pronto cause this will just not do, I need more time to 'socialize'(lol) and of course spend with my family.

Oh, before I forget, I went to this place called Coconut Grove (Groove?) in ikoyi over the weekend, it actually wasn't bad. It was like a mellow 'Cafe Wha' for the NY folks. Complete with the oyinbo sounding music and live band. Definitely better than being trampled in a club though.

So what's new folks? How has your week/weekend been?

Ooh I came across your blog for the first time today. Loser that I am, I've managed to read the entire thing and get up to speed.. hehe.

I can't believe you've moved back?!! Especially with such a young baby. I neeeeed you to enjoy the experience... My plan is to be where you are in about 3 years. My story's a little different from yours though as I'm not married and I go to Lagos as often as I can. I even know what and where Coconut Grove is (although I haven't managed to go yet as I was only in town for 2 weeks in December).

Will definitely be coming back to your blog to hear more about your exploits. And yes.. please listen to the other women in your life... Lagos girls are DANGEROUS! xxx

Hello. Don't get stressed out. Do your best and leave the rest to God. Your employer is lucky to have a hardworking/dedicated employee.

Hey, when you get back to your hair/skin. Let me know what works for you.

I hope you don't mind this question... but how does one get wireless access in Lagos? I'm planning to visit in a few months. I have a wireless card. And my current provider is Sprint. So... who are the wireless providers in Lagos, and what are the fees like? If I get a company name.. I can check them on the web, or call.

ok.. I know I'm getting a bit nosy now. But inquiring minds want to know.... Do you work for a fortune 500 / fortune 100 company? Very few companies based in the US will allow you to work sooo remotely (Africa). You have a good deal girl.

Ciao for now.

bitchy...lol...hope you enjoyed the entire blog. Don't worry I neeeed to enjoy the experience as well cause I'm not planning on moving back anytime soon.

chichi...thanks thanks :), yeah I need one based in naija but fulltime though. I'll email you to get/give more details.

anonymous..but I have to worry about social skills (might be singing a different tune in a few weeks), I need to work with someone who at least I consider 'normal'. You're right though we're definitely weird.

mama bomboy...I'm really trying not to stress, I will move on to the lighter fickle stuff soon enough. I hear starcomms has wireless access but I haven't tried it out yet, if you're going to be on the island you'll have more options, I use "direct on pc" (www.directonpc.com) it's ok at best. Don't count on getting much information from any website though. I have a wireless router which then turns my connection wireless. Hope that makes sense and helps.

Thanks, I know it's a good deal. You're right very few companies let you work remotely, much less from 'Africa', it's not a fortune 500/100 company, it's a small techie company. Generally I have always found smaller companies to be more flexible than the larger more 'established' ones.

Nice blog...missed out on Coconut Grove on my recent trip home...guess I was hanging out with the wrong crowd who took me to Soul Lounge and some club in VGC which both failed to impress..:-)

Hmm. Coconut Grove...I have passed it countless times and wondered whose idea it was to do the palm frond thing...but i might check it out now. Employers seems to be the same all over the world

ONB...sorry oh, I don't think that whole thing about lucky start and finishing early is going to happen, infact this project is going to be a major disaster. Thanks for the well wishes.

chichi..no worries, I wanted/want someone I can work closely with. Yes oh! I'm an ex-qc chick! if you're who I think you are then you were in X right?

uknaija..thanks, honestly most places in naija fail to impress, but after you've been here long enough everything becomes the shit, cause there's absolutely nothing else to do.

uzo..check it out, depending on what your thing is you just might like it! I keep hearing good things about starcomms wireless, I think I just might try it out.

naijadude...thanks :). baby is doing great, she's crawling and standing now (I know who asked me..lol). I won't quite call it having fun, but we're getting aclimatised (sp?)

Did you finally get any luck with getting help in meeting ur project deadlines?

Anonymous said...

Today is 7th of Feburary,
How far with the project?

Omohemi, thanks for checking, they finally decided to stop drinking that 'happy juice' that made them think it was possible to launch on the 7th ...lol, so for now there's no official launch date, they are still QA-ing and reporting bugs.
