Fine Face No Pimples

Have you noticed that plenty girls in Lagos have serious fresh skin? I mean even fresher than the girls in yankee, it’s not even funny oh! And when you ask them all of them will tell they use pears baby soap or some crap like that or they drink a lot of water. Abeg, who doesn’t know that water thing? Me too I drink plenty water and my face is ok, but not as fresh as I see on these girls.

Since I am trying to attain my MILF status at all costs, I too started using pears baby soap, those bitches were lying men, why can’t we just share the love and become one big bloody attractive happy family??!! Eh? Why are we women so bloody competitive? Even my sister oh? This girl used to have serious “patch patch” skin, all of a sudden she started looking real fresh, to the point that she looks younger than me. WTF?...... I’m going off track. Anyway I did some real investigating and here’s what I came up with (*disclaimer: please if you get big pimples from my regimen, no blame me oh! It’s not my fault that you didn’t do a patch test first – thank you very much) - Guys don't worry you can try this in the privacy of your bathroom, no one has to know you apply facial masks at night :)

Natural solutions (necessary in Nigeria, cause nothing is convenient, either you swim 7 seas to buy it, or you pay through your nose)

+ Juicing: I hear carrot and cucumber juiced at home works wonders for your skin and hair, I am yet to try either just going by what I have heard

+ Aspirin and Lemon juice, apparently a few aspirin (enough to make the lemon juice pasty) crushed in lemon juice applied as a mask (don't sleep with it oh!) just put it on till it dries then peel off and rinse your face, in addition to helping with craw craw it shrinks pores the size of craters (make sure you don't have any open skin on your face, it won't be a nice experience with the lemon juice)

+ Honey, a few people said this, but I tried it and got plenty craw craw, apparently I am allergic to honey, but some people swear by this, personally, I'm not messing with it again.

+ Water, I'm sure you've heard this from everyone already, drink plenty of it.

Shelf solutions

+ Neutrogena clean and clear soap

+ Dudu osun

+ Proactive

As for those of you with fresh faces reading this, please tell us what you do to have such positively glowing skin.

It is not only the women who look as fresh as daisies. It always amazes me when people come over to London to see the condition of their skin. Smooth as a baby's butt. These are the same people when you speak to them on the phone will tell you about all the stress they are going through in Niaja and yet they appear looking fresh as a daisy. I always put it doen to the amount of sun they were exposed to as well as the amount of liquids that had to be consumed just to stay alive. Now I find out there are other factors. Hmm where is that bottle of Nurofen plus?

9jamommy, i was actually thinking about this same thing yesterday.
Everyone has different skin types so what works for one person might not work for the other but I shall give u one miracle product. Use this for one month and u will be lookin 'beyonce' fresh.
Its Origins Modern Friction -

toks-boy, Lol..my exact sentiment... never thought about the sun that's actually a good point.

Thanks bella naija..Lol at looking 'beyonce fresh', problem now is where to find it in this God-forsaken country called Nigeria, and since its regular price is $36, it will cost $200 in Nigeria :).

girrrl, i told you before. Neutrogena visibly even facial wash with the SPF15 moisturizer.

and no sleeping with makeup

you can also use mac concealer for the dark sports. It has sunblock in it to preven hyperpigmentation and keeps you looking fresh ;-)

And no, I am not buying it for you to ship to naija. :-D

lmao@milf status.. goodluck with that babe.. it's very necessary.. hehe

Dang@ all those concoctions... if you say they work sha! I guess i would be considered somewhat freshfaced... no secret anything... I use Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash every morning and never let any sort of soap touch my face at all. I also use facial moisturizers that don't have any oil in them... and on the few occasions that a pimple comes visiting... I never touch it/press it/break it... so they just heal up and don't leave any spots

. Nice mummy blog. Really cool. This might sound really funny but let me give you ladies in the blog house one secret. My girlfriends are always like wow............your skin is so cute. Wetin you de use? Am like me, l take a shower in the morning and one every nite. After my nite shower, all l put on my sweet face is johnson baby powder. it's has aloe and vitamin E in it and guess what. It soothes the skin all nite long. So that's a little secret.

1. What is MILF? I'm lost.

Dudu Osun I know about. Na Wa oh!! I think its the atmosphere generally. No matter how stressed out people are in naija, they always have more fun than those in the diaspora. Thats where the fresh faces are coming from. LOL!!

I drink loads of water, actually 3-4 litres a day, a pain, cos i live in the toilet, so people think i am pregnant.
I always use a hand towel and any soap really to wash my face, scrub my face everyday, it works wonders!
I dont believe in face masks, i always break out, so i guess, scrubbing my face daily works for me, try shea butter or aloe vera soap.
Always use a light moisturiser for your face, nothing too heavy and minimise your use of makeup.
Another thing when you get out of the shower, pat urself dry not completely and slap baby oil all over yourself, it helps trap moisture in your skin.
That is how i do mine though.
Anyway naija mommy, there is a secret, use UNREFINED SHEA BUTTER, not the stuff they sell in shops with all the chemicals added, just ask a family member in the villa to send you some, believe me that ish works miracles, i am not joking, its like applying grease on your body, but does not make you feel greasy. Try it and you'll see.
I have been using it, and people say that my skin glows, not trying to be bigheaded here

9jamommy said...

@anonymous 1 aka finefacesis, don't worry someone will be coming to the states soon from Nigeria and you'll need me to send something to you.....tsk tsk

@overwhelmed...I'm not saying they work oh! I'm just posting what I found from my research.....lol. It seems like neutrogena is a favorite amongst many.

@sisi eko...I'm a young mommy oh! maybe I should change my name to young9jamommy...LOL. Anyway, thanks for the tips, I'll add to my stockpile of beauty regimens.

@n9ja...lol...no comment.

@anonymous 2...thanks for the definition of MILF for everyone who doesn't know.

@yankeenaijachick..johnson's baby powder...hmmmm now that's something I have in large supplies...

@calabar_gal, see definition of MILF above, well I guess I've not been enjoying enough yet so I haven't reached the 'fine face no pimples' status.

@anonymous 3, I guess I just have to suck it up and drink all that water. I actually heard about shea butter before but for hair growth, I was reserving that for my 'so you want to have mammi water hair?' post.

My dear- two things
Purpose face wash (Walgreens,Eckerd, Walmart- any of these stores in the US.)
Boots Glycerin and Rosewater Cleanser/Astringent (Boots-UK)

Just wash and cleanse with this twice daily..your skin will look fabulous.
:)

I actually use products, but I find that the one that works for me doesnt work for my sister. Find the ne that works for u and settle on that.

hmm LMAO @ MILF. hehehhehe
anyhoo, i 've had uneven skin issues for a while until i found what works for me. That's what you have to do...find what works for you.

Right now i use estee lauder splash away oil free cleanser to wash my face morning/night.

i use proactive blemish treatment to "spot treat" pimples once in a while.

i use makari dey suisse once in a week to lighten my face. apparently i am light skinned, but after trial and error with various yeye products, my fact got darker than my body so i use the lightening cream to blend my face with my neck.

for moisturizing, boster, cellular repair cream, exfoliating, protectif serum, volumnizer, toning, eye cream..i use ReVive and i have never been happier. let me not blow my horn but my skin glows and now i barely use makeup besides eyeliner and lipgloss. i feel the pancacke will hide my nice skin so i go powder/pancake free nowadays.

my advice, is to start trying little things here and there to see what works for your skin. If you can get your hands on Revive samples, see if it works for u. Their cheapest (least expensive) product is their exfoliante cleanser for $60...the moisturizer is $195 etc...but it works for me.

9jamommy -please i beg can you give opinion on the move to maija. i know your child is quite young but I am trying to gather as much info as possible from returnees. We are coming back this summer with some excitement and trepidation. Has it been worse or better than expected?

9jamommy said...

Thanks Angela, $60 is the cost of their cheapest product?! Hmm I better go stockpile on dudu osun...lol..Anyway I'll give it a shot if none of the cheaper methods work...lol

toks-boy, my daughter is just 9 months so I'm not going to face a lot of the things you'll face and vice versa, (if I remember correctly your youngest is older than my baby).

So far, I definitely do not regret the move, what I've found most frustrating is the unreliability of people/staff. Tips that might be helpful:

- bring medication for little things like colds/coughs, insect bites etc. for your kids(not that these things aren't available in Nigeria, it's just more convenient when you don't have to send some 'Mercy' or 'Patience' to buy something and they come back with the wrong thing.)

- If you're bringing in a container make sure you have a good clearing agent, those people are rogues! If you need one I can recommend the one we used.

- If your kids still use things like diapers and formula, bring a lot of that, it's more expensive here (compared to america at least).

- If you still intend to buy things online from UK sites from time to time, be prepared to call them, they block a lot of transactions from Nigeria.

- According to my doctor, if you're moving back permanently you and your family don't need to take any anti-malaria medication because your body has to build it's own natural immunity, so you can confirm this with a doctor in Nigeria when you get here just to make sure.

I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot of other things, I'm not sure what the prices of things are in the UK compared to Nigeria but I find most things here to be 3 times their regular prices in the US, so if you can do as much shopping as you can for basic toiletries...etc.

Generally just excercise a lot of patience when you get here and after about 2 months everything will start to seem 'normal', cars driving in the opposite direction and all...lol

If you have any specific questions though, don't hesitate to ask. Hope this helps.

i also have the same issues with my face. what i find annoying is that most of the products i use only work for a certain period and then it just stops working all together. i have tried it all from proactive, to aveeno, clearasil to neutrogena. thanks for this post

MILF???Nice one...that's something someone should be proud of.

Proactive is so so not for the black skin...they should be lying there and using any willing black celeb for the adverts…STORY!!! Invested in the stuves…and hell no it didn’t work….i like their mask sha…don’t know if it actually does anything…

Me o I can swear by Naija Nixoderm..i’ve been using that stuff since boarding house days in the nineties…and that stuff though a tad hot..works…and that’s my own 2 kobo.

Dont mind those girls with their smooth faces. I hear they have some concotions that some lady mixes up for them. Some bleaching creams and other things. My cousin recently visited from Naija and almost had a fit when she saw me. I had craw craw, spots, pimples etc and I was always the one with velevety skin. When she lived in the states her skin was worse than mine(at present) But she moves back to Naija and she is Miss Venus de milo skin! I asked what the secret of her somewhat lighter, smoother and blemish free skin was and she showed me some concotion in a jar and said when I returned to naija she would hook me up..Now I dont know if I would put that kinda bleach bleach stuff on my face..hmmm but a girl is steady looking like Miss polka dot face!

9jamommy said...

@uzo..thanks, you sound like my sister telling me stop sleeping with makeup. I swear I've stopped, and I still this tiny tiny annoying rash

@folu..thnx, will check it out

@funmi....glad it was helpful to you

@dimples..yeah I'm struggling to attain milf status so me too I can be proud. Which one is 'Naija Nixoderm' again?....lol, you learn something new every day

@parazone super bleach....are you serious? LOL at "Miss Venus de milo" and "Miss polka dot face", don't think I want a high yellow face right now compared to the rest of my body though, but I'll put it up if I find out any info about the special concotion for anyone else who might be interested.

Hi and a Happy New Year,
i just bumped into your blog while surfing on the net and i must say that i am highly impresseed by your articles. I totally agree with you on the issue of our female folks not letting on the type of therapy that gives them that glowing skin. Like you, i was left to find out which therapy worked on my skin and i finally found it last year. It's Clean and Clear facial cleansing bar. This soap really works wonders on your face plus it contains an anti-bacterial substance in it, so you dont have to bother about skin infections. It is mild on the skin and helps to cler sunburn on the face leaving your skin and complexion radiant. I hope it works for you and if it does, am glad i was of help to you. Once again, you are doing a great job. Keep it up.

Ah my sister, I agree with you oh. We here for Yankee just dey suffer dey smile. Anyhow, I get clear face. Na genes and has nothing to do with me. Na clearasil I dey use for morning. Then I make sure I wipe off ALL makeup at night with Ponds Make Up Remover and that's it. Since I am in my late 20's (gasp) I have not yet started using those anti-wrinkle masks and all. But what I think really does help is this: I hardly use makeup. Just lip gloss most of the time. I am scared of foundation I won't lie!
